| Low Profile High Density Memory Modules. Expand up to 786 MB. Power Macintosh G3 systems have three SDRAM DIMM slots. The computer comes with 32 MB or 64 MB preinstalled. 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB and high density 256 MB modules are available for further expansion. Power Mac G3 main memory can be expanded up to 786 MB (max.) by installing low profile, high density, 256 MB SDRAM memory modules. |
![]() Macintosh G3 systems have three SDRAM DIMM slots, the computer comes 32 MB or 64 MB preinstalled. 16 MB, 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB and high density 256 MB modules are available for further expansion. |
One Video Expansion connector is available for 2 MB or 4 MB SGRAM DIMM to upgrade the system's main memory to 4 MB or 6 MB (maximum). 2 MB Video Memory is soldered on the Power Macintosh G3 logic board. |
| IDE Port Power Macintosh G3s come with IDE drives preinstalled in the computer. Existing drives can only be replaced in order to upgrade to a higher capacity drive. |
| 5 MB/s (Max) The external SCSI port available in Power Macintosh G3s is SCSI-II compliant which allows 5 MB/s (max) of Data transfer rate (theoretical). It does not allow more than 3.0 MB/s, therefore, the full potential of the faster drives available in the market (Ultra SCSI-3, Ultra 2 SCSI which offers 40 MB/s or 80 MB/s in wide configuration) cannot be utilized. Users looking to maximize their storage subsystem cannot get more than 3.0 MB/s of data transfer rate by connecting to the external SCSI-Port regardless of the performance of drive used. |
| 10 MB/s (Max) The internal SCSI port available in Power Macintosh G3 for connecting internal SCSI peripherals is Fast SCSI-II compliant which allows 10 MB/s (max) of Data transfer rate (theoretical), practically it does not allow more than 5-6 MB/s, therefore full potential of drives available in the market which offers higher data throughput cannot be tapped, Like Ultra SCSI-3, Ultra 2 SCSI which offers 40 MB/s or 80 MB/s MB/s in wide configuration. Due to the incompatibility in drive performance and SCSI-Port data transfer rate limitation, PCI SCSI controller can be used to bridge the gap between drive and system SCSI Port, this gives substantial increase in Data through put of the disk subsystem. |
| 80 MB/s (Max) High performance drives connected using a PCI SCSI card offer a substantial increase in data transfer rate compared to connecting with the system internal or external SCSI-Ports. This results in a dramatic increase in data I/O performance. By using a PCI SCSI Card, drives can be connected internally or externally. |
